Lavazza!

As foodies and caffeine aficionados well know, Italy is the cultural center of the coffee universe.  And after tasting one of the country’s black, liquid gems, we are proud to announce the arrival of our new house coffee, Lavazza, “ Italy’s favorite coffee!”

Lavazza’s history began in Turin in 1895, and today remains a family-run business.  It is now operating under the third and fourth generations of coffee-loving Lavazzas.  And even in its success, Lavazza Coffee continues to demonstrate the upstanding values of a socially responsible family.  Lavazza inspects and certifies each of its farming sources to ensure that it utilizes sustainable farming and social practices.

But equally importantly, the Lavazzas seek out the best coffee beans from across the globe.  And over the decades, they have perfected the arts of blending and roasting their coffee, and have created truly unique brews.  So come by the Shop and pick up a hot cup, beans by the pound, or some fresh grounds.  We’re sure that you’ll love it as much as we do, and you may never have to sleep again.

Vintage Beer

Many eyebrows begin to rise at the mention of "old" beer as a delicious treat.  But as members of The Wine Cellar's Beer E-mail List know, we're always excited by beers which show the promise of evolving over coming years.  And while few have extensive beer collections, mature beer is not unattainable.  The Cheese Shop is excited to announce the arrival of one such beer, called L'Abbaye de St. Bon-Chien.  This is a beer like no other: it is a vintage dated Belgian-style brew, aged in a variety of oak barrels, blended for optimal balance, and aged in bottle.  The current arrival is the 2006 vintage.  In aging, the beer's oaky flavors have integrated, the color has shifted to resemble that of an aged Burgundy, the beer's texture has become more silky, and the "secondary" fruity aromas typical of older beers have emerged as another layer of complexity.  So stop by the Wine Cellar, talk beer with us, and take your first step into an even broader beer world!
